Raising Our First Green Flag
On the 21st June Sallins National School turned 'green'. At 10:00a.m. all the pupils, some parents, a number of past-pupils, staff and friends of the school were waiting for the green flag to be raised. A great hush gathered over the crowd as speeches were about to start. Dan, Kate and Leah thanked everyone involved in gaining the green flag, with a special mention going to Mrs. Davy and the entire green schools committee. Mr. Kevin Connolly, our school caretaker who has worked so hard, and continues to do so, was specifically named and thanked due to his huge role in earning the green flag. Therefore it was fitting that Kevin would raise our first green flag for the first time! The children clapped and cheered as the flag was being raised. Mr. Lanigan reiterated thanks to all who were involved in obtaining the green flag. The end of proceedings was signalled by the start of a perfectly timed rain shower, which had been threatening for a while but held off until the important job of raising the flag was completed!
