Comenius Project ‘Traditional Children’s Games’ 2011-
Our school is participating in an exciting European wide partnership programme. The title of the programme is ‘Traditional Children’s Games’. The object of the programme is to introduce children to games from their past and from their own cultural tradition and through this process to enrich their characters and personalities by learning about rules, leadership, sharing and social skills.
The countries involved are: Ireland, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Portugal, Liechtenstein, Lithuania and Romania. The participating countries visit each other to experience school life and collaborate, share, work and learn together with the teachers they meet.
Three teachers travelled to Rieti, in Italy, at the end of January. They were Mr. O’Neill, Ms. Hennessy and Ms. Sheehan. They met children in four schools including a nursery school and were treated to a display of traditional games, song and dance. They were also taken on a tour of Rome and visited the Vatican.
Rieti, is situated about 2 hours drive south of Rome. It is a very picturesque city and has an old town which is the centre point of all of Italy.
